A good business owner always has growth on their mind. That’s how a company puts down its roots in the UAE.

However, with growth comes change. And if the changes outweigh the growth of the company for the worse, the company slowly slides away from under the umbrella of legal purview and VAT rules of the UAE Govt.

When your company is at such a risk of non-compliance, it becomes incumbent on you to keep up with all the latest rules and regulations set forth by the govt.

The process is pretty simple and effortless. Read on to know how you can add or change your business activities in Dubai. Also shown is the procedure of how we can help you make the whole process all the more efficient.

Steps Needed to Take to Change or Add a New Business Activity

The government entity overseeing the whole operation is the Department of Economic Development (DED). Before you start, ensure that the activities you’re adding or changing match the ones you already are carrying out. If the new activity you want to add is completely different from the existing activity, then you will have to remove the existing activities. You may also be required to procure some preliminary approvals from the respective authority depending on your business activity.

Let us take a look at the series of steps that go into adding or removing a business.

  1. The first step is getting an approval from the DED.
  2. Fill in a BR1 form and get it attested by the Managing Director. The partners are not required to sign the BR1 form but all the same, their names must be mentioned on the form.
  3. Then, you must submit the form to DED.
  4. A DED officer will then hand you a No-Objection Certificate (NOC) for adding the activity.
  5. Take help from a legal translator to include an Addendum in the LLC agreement. If the agreement is in Arabic, then the translator’s seal is not required.
  6. The addendum will then need to be attested from Notary Public at the Department of Economic Development (DED).
  7. Then, all the partners will have to appear before the notary to sign the Court Agreement. In the case wherein the partners are out of the country, a Power of Attorney (POA) must be sent, which will be presented in the court.
  8. The required documents will then have to be submitted to DED with the attested Addendum.
  9. Payment will have to be made to the DED.
  10. Procure the License for the new activity.

Documents Needed to Change or Add a Business Activity

The documents needed for the initial approval are as follows:

  • Approval from government authorities
  • Original Certificate of registration
  • Proof of the reserved trade name
  • Registration and licensing application for new business activity
  • A copy of the lease
  • Approval from the Ministry of Economy
  • Original trade license
  • Resolution of Company’s Board of Directors

After you get the approval, you will then need to submit these documents along with the updated Memorandum of Association (MOA). The MOA must include the newly added business activity. If required, you will also have to change the Contract of the Service Agent.
