DubaiID, SmartPass, and UAE Pass — the difference
As the name suggests, DubaiID was launched by Dubai Smart Government (DSG) and Emirates Identity Authority (EIDA) solely for the residents of Dubai. This service gave Dubai residents a single key to access all services in Dubai.
Like the DubaiID, the SmartPass was the access key for the residents of Abu Dhabi and some of the Northern Emirates to access government services.
The UAE Pass is an initiative taken up by the Abu Dhabi Digital Authority (ADDA), Smart Dubai, and Telecommunications and Digital Government Regulatory Authority (TDRA) to facilitate easy access to all UAE government services. This digital signature enables you to login into government portals with the tap of a finger. The electronic signature is valid across all transactions and documentation in the UAE. The UAE Pass signature uses various encrypted methods to protect the identity of its user. One of the methods it uses is the SHA-256 hashing algorithm.
WHAT IS SHA-256?
Short for Standard Hashing Algorithm, SHA was created by the National Security Agency (NSA). SHA-256 is a ‘one-way cryptographic function,’ and its specialty is that the information it contains cannot be decrypted back to its original form.
Procedure to Apply for UAE Pass
Step 1: Download the UAE Pass application
The app is available for both Android and iOS. Once downloaded, click on ‘Create Account’. After perusing and agreeing to the Terms and Conditions, click on ‘Continue’.
Step 2: Scan your Emirates ID
You will see a prompt asking to scan your Emirates ID. Tap on ‘Yes, scan now’ and then allow the app to access the camera. Scan your Emirates ID as instructed.
Step 3: Confirm personal details
The application will show you the details it captures from your Emirates ID. Carefully review the information and click on ‘Confirm’.
Step 4: Mobile number and email verification
The app will send an OTP to your mobile number and your email address separately. After confirming your mobile number and email address, you can proceed to the next step.
Step 5: Creating pin
Enter a 4-digit pin in the next step. This pin will be used to login into the app. Alternatively, you can also login into the application with your fingerprint.
Step 6: Face verification
The app will then ask to verify your face. Hold your phone close to your face and complete the verification.
Step 7: Set a password
The last step is setting up your password. This password can be used to login into the app. Once you’ve set up your account, you will be granted instant access to over 5,000 different government services!
